Meeting No. (11/2023): Discussion Meeting between the Union Minister of the Ministry of Justice and Judges from Township Courts
Meeting No. (11/2023): Discussion Meeting between the Union Minister of the Ministry of Justice and Judges from Township Courts was held at 10am (myanmar time) on 13th August 2023.
U Thein Oo, Union Minister of the Ministry of Justice, Daw May Aung Thu, Permanent Secretary, U Min Naung Khaing and Daw Lin Htet San, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, U Tin Htun Thein, Director General of Rule of Law and Transitional Justice Department, U Yan Gyi Aung, Director General of Interim Judicial Affairs Department, U Naing Myo Tun, Director General of Prosecution Department, U Arr Man, Director General of Legislative Vetting and Advising Department, Directors, Heads of Offices, Advisors of the Ministry of Justice, responsible staff members from Interim Judicial Affairs Department, Judges from Courts on the ground and communication officials attended that meeting.
Firstly, Union Minister U Thein Oo addressed in the opening remark that “Ministry of Justice is conducting as a system of triad for operating the functions of Judges, Law Officers, Correction Staff and the Ministries, for the justice system; during the Spring Revolution, the Courts need to make the accurate decisions correctly in effectively addressing the interrelationships and issues among each other; the previous three Departments such as Judiciary, Prosecution and Correction are now under the umbrella of the same Ministry, Ministry of Justice and cooperating together so that we are carrying out the best with the right context during the Spring Revolution; implementation of criminal justice should be mainly focused during this period, ensuring its uninterrupted progression until the revolution attains its success; Prisons are also under the Ministry of Justice, Courts shall be changed to be mature in judicial proceedings along with the maturity of the Spring Revolution; the Ministry of Justice aims to support the successful tract of Spring Revolution by achieving its target of establishing 100 Township Courts, as planned for the year 2023; the occurrence of cases that shouldn’t happen during the Revolution period is primarily due to the lack of a secure legal fence (framework) in areas where there are no Courts; operating the Ministry in the form of a triad has reached to a crucial juncture in the revolution that’s why the main point I would like to focus saying in today’s meeting is to emphasize the importance of judges conducting their operations with increased diligence; beyond the triad structure within our Ministry, we need to foster coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Home Affairs, which is the main organization for apprehending the criminals and investigating the cases, and the Ministry of Defense, which is seeking territorial control, in order to implement judicial proceedings successfully; we need to establish a unified collaboration among ourselves in systematically implementing to accomplish the functions we are tasked with; success can be achieved only when the judges who are taking responsibility for the respective areas, possess a clear understanding of their duties and responsibilities; and thanks to everyone who attended this meeting”.
Subsequently, the responsible individuals answered the questions raised by the attendees, including the judges respectively, and proceeded to formulate meeting resolutions and outline future plans. The meeting successfully ended at 3pm (Myanmar time).
