Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.

Establishment

The Ministry of Justice was  established on the  5th of June 2021, and this consisted of legal professionals from various sectors, other professionals, lawyers as well as such civil servants as legal officers, judges who joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM).

The Ministry of Justice carries out the duties of the Union Attorney-General’s office, and is also responsible for transitional judicial affairs, taking  the main responsibility of creating an interim judicial sector,  judicial management, monitoring the different levels of courts as well as administering the prisons, and so on.

Union Minister

The Biography of U Thein Oo

U Thein Oo graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (B.A. Law); LL.B. degree from Yangon University in 1978 and a Master of Arts from Mahidol University.

He was elected to Parliament in 1990 as a representative for the National League for Democracy and served as Union Minister of the Ministry of Justice in the National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma (NCGUB) in exile. He also served as the President of the Burma Lawyers’ Council (BLC) from 1994 to 2014.

He acted as Secretary during the drafting of the first constitution for the Federal Republic of the Union of Myanmar from 1993 to 1996, and subsequently in the Federal Constitution Drafting and Coordinating Committee (FCDCC) during the creation of the Second Draft Constitution from 2006 to 2008.

Currently, he serves as the Union Minister of the Ministry of Justice in the National Unity Government.
