Meeting No. (10/2023): Discussion Meeting with Township Law Officers organized by the National Unity Government, Ministry of Justice, Prosecution Department was held at 10:00am (Myanmar time) on 19th of August 2023.

U Thein Oo, Union Minister of the Ministry of Justice, Daw May Aung Thu, Permanent Secretary, Directors Generals from the relevant departments, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, Advisors of the Ministry of Justice, Directors, Office Team Leaders, officials from the Prosecution Department, Communication officers, and 22 Law Officers from eighteen townships attended the meeting.

Firstly, U Thein Oo, Union Minister of the Ministry of Justice, started in his opening remark that “Mingalarpar to all the meeting attendees; after the two and a half years of the spring revolution which started with the three fingers salute, the Military Council can now only control Yangon, Mandalay, Naypyidaw and Ayeyarwady regions and even in those areas, they no longer have absolute control; We have now reached the turning point of the revolution; The Ministry of Justice is a major current of the Spring Revolution, Ministry of Justice is operating in cooperation with law offices, courts and prisons as trilateral; Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration, Ministry of Justice are collaborating as trilateral; By helping and supporting each other, we believe that we could perform more advanced duties for the revolution”.

Afterwards, Daw May Aung Thu, Permanent Secretary, gave the introduction speech, and U Naing Myo Tun, Director General of the Prosecution Department explained and discussed the implementation of work. Following that, responsible individuals from relevant departments answered questions raised by the attendees, continued the general discussion, and proceeded to formulate meeting resolutions and outline future plans.

Subsequently, for the meeting resolutions and outlined future plans, Daw May Aung Thu, Permanent Secretary, confirmed on behalf of the Union Minister of the Ministry of Justice. And then, Daw May Aung Thu stated in her closing statement that “she would like to thank everyone for being able to provide the closing statement in this meeting with law officers; the Ministry of Justice is a combination of courts, law offices, and corrections department that were organized separately before; as such, all of us should be working together in harmony and consider us as one; independent judiciary should be implemented by all of us becoming more unitary; we will also strive to provide more refresher courses that are necessary; she believes that today’s meeting would offer great support in implementing our work on the ground; and she wishes every law officer could safely carry out their duties”. The meeting was successfully concluded at 1:20pm (Myanmar time).
