Meeting No.3/2024: Discussion Meeting between the Interim Judicial Affairs Department and Township Judges
The Meeting No.3/2024 between the Interim Judicial Affairs Department under the National Unity Government (NUG) and the Township Judges was held at 10:00 a.m. (Myanmar time) on March 23, 2024.
The Director General of the Interim Judicial Affairs Department, Director General of the Correction Department, relevant directors and officials from the Interim Judicial Affairs Department and Correction Department, relevant township judges from 28 courts, as well as, communication officers, attended the meeting.
Firstly, the Director General of the Interim Judicial Affairs Department, U Yan Gyi Aung, stated in his opening remark: “We have challenges in conducting judiciary as it is an interim period; if we follow laws, rules, orders, directives, and instructions issued by the ministry, we will be able to overcome the challenges; there are certain standards in following laws, rules, and procedures; if those certain standards are followed, it will be convenient and smooth; in following so, it should be justice, equality, reasonable, consistent with the local situation and local traditions and procedures, and negotiation with the discretionary power of a judge; if we base on those above points in case trial, we will overcome the challenges; it is also necessary to preserve the documents with technology for security; if need for technical assistance, it can ask for the help at any time.”
Afterward, the Director General of the Correction Department, U Myo Aung, discussed issues related to the prison with the township judges on the ground.
Further, the responsible officials from relevant departments answered questions and challenges raised by the township judges regarding on-ground operations and administration, and the Director General of the Interim Judicial Affairs Department confirmed the meeting resolutions and outlined plans.
Following that, the Director General of the Interim Judicial Affairs Department delivered in closing remarks that operational difficulties can be presented at any time; it will be connected with the necessary departments; and he would like to thank all attendees despite the difficulties. The meeting was successfully concluded at 12:33 p.m. (Myanmar time).
